Company-level AESAs: putting your organizational footprint in the right context
Absolute environmental sustainability assessments (AESAs) are a novel methodology that promises to determine whether humankind can stay within the planet’s carrying capacity—and if so, how. Up to now, case studies have focused on the impact of countries and sectors, and little attention has been paid to assessing how companies perform.
With that in mind, PRé’s Analyst Hendrik Oosterhoff collaborated with a team at the Technical University of Denmark to develop a solution. And the results look
Calculating biodiversity footprints in the banking sector
How to calculate the biodiversity footprint of the bank’s investments? Together with ASN Bank, PRé and CREM developed a method to help the bank achieve its goal – a net positive impact on biodiversity by 2030.
Improving Loop’s circular model with environmental footprint information
Loop is a global platform that offers consumer products in reusable packaging. For their partners Procter & Gamble, PRé used a combination of circularity and life cycle metrics to help design a circular model and assess the impact of products delivered in reusable packaging through Loop.
Now P&G can also calculate future scenarios independently using the online tool SimaPro Share. As Loop brings back the old ‘milkman’ model, this could inspire other system changes that go well
beyond the use of different packaging materials and weights.
Life cycle-based sustainability standards and guidelines
Standards can help organizations keep abreast of sustainability developments and reporting by providing credible and comparable environmental metrics at the product and organization level. You may be familiar with the ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 on life cycle assessment, but what other standards are out there? And which ones are under development?
Exciting news: Together with the ecoinvent association (lead) and Blonk Consultants we joined forces to provide EF 3.0-compliant
background data for the transition phase of the PEF and OEF project of the European Commission.
This will contribute to the availability of the life cycle inventory data. Namely, the consortium along with trusted partners will provide datasets for 1300 processes in various sectors including, plastics, renewable materials, agro-food, textiles, chemicals and others.
LCM 2021, the 10th international conference on Life Cycle Management, will take place online on September 5-8, 2021 under the theme ‘Building a Sustainable Future Based on Innovation and Digitalization’.
PRé is proud to be an Exclusive Partner and continue to develop valuable collaboration with the life cycle community. Our team will be there, and we hope to meet you at one of the sessions and welcome to our virtual stand. You can also schedule an online meeting with us during the event to gain more insights or discuss your case. We hope to see you at LCM 2021!
